Acting today, conserving tomorrow
As
a regional TAFE Institute we are more than training providers – we have a
community leadership responsibility which reaches beyond our educational role.
As good corporate citizens we are committed to social, economic and
environmental sustainability and this is the focus of ‘Sustainability at
SuniTAFE’.
During 2009 Sunraysia Institute of TAFE, with the support of the TAFE
Development Centre, has embraced a whole of Institute professional development
program based on a sustainability theme. Outcomes of this program include
increased awareness of sustainability issues, improved performance in relation
to work practices, the incorporation of sustainability related units into
training programs, and the stimulation of new ideas for new programs, practices
and improvements across the Institute.
The Institute has also engaged in a range of other programs and Initiatives
based on Sustainability during 2009. These have included the ‘Future Farming – Bio
Fuels and Hydroponics’ study tour, speaker events, a sustainability themed Open
Week, and a major role in the
Mildura Sun Festival.
Another way SuniTAFE helps achieve sustainability goals in the community is
through the
National Centre for Sustainability (NCS). This body operates out of
SuniTAFE's Mildura and Swan Hill Campuses.
NCS works with local stakeholders, community and government agencies to achieve
sustainability gains in land and water management. It acts as a project broker,
harnessing resources, coordinating teams and project managing initiatives that
improve the physical sustainability of our natural resources, while developing
the capacity of communities to implement positive change.
SuniTAFE offers a
Diploma of Sustainability, and a variety of
conservation & land management
and renewable energy courses.
